Memorializing the present for the future via the past.
Henryk Ptasiewicz is a highly respected contemporary painter. Jeff Sass is a traditional photographer using vintage and antique cameras with historic and alternative darkroom methods. In advance of Henryk’s upcoming exhibition at OA Gallery in September, Jeff agreed to shoot Henryk’s portrait using his unconventional (for the digital age) equipment and techniques.
The Photo Shoot
|When we need a few promotional photos for an artist we reflexively pull out a digital camera and snap a few. Photographer, Jeff Sass suggested a portrait using some of his vintage gear and processes. What started as unremarkable turned into a fascinating experience.|
|Jeff shared some photos of the process along the way. The steps were pretty much the same as manually processing any film and prints, but he uses a few simple ingredients to revive the film and photo paper to make it all happen.|
The result are photographs of Henryk that look as though they might have been taken in the 1940’s or 50’s.

Henryk’s artwork can be seen at his exhibition at “Celebrity” at OA Gallery opening September 1st.
